Thoughts Floating Out Like Bubbles

Hi Jeddah,
When I was in high school, I had an experience which I have been unable to explain. It was mid afternoon and all of a sudden everything turned into slow motion … including my thoughts. It was as if my thoughts were floating out like bubbles and you could be aware of them. This happened for a few hours. Would there be any explanation to this?
Mike

Mike you were undoubtedly experiencing the unseen nature of existence. From this we can see that our thoughts do leave us like entities and ‘travel’ causing influence ‘elsewhere’. All the more reason to allow our thoughts to be harmonious and kind. That way they can do no harm and only serve the one releasing them and the one receiving them.

Visualising Energy Centre Colours

Dearest Jeddah.

You are an inspiration. In Seeds of Enlightenment CD 4 Energy Centres I am having difficulty with visualising the energy centre colours (visualisation has been a challenge for many years for me, although I can sense and feel OK); Jeddah can you recommend something to help me visualise please. Also, is the “ray” of colour a single ray (like a bolt of lighting), and if yes where is it directed from? the spine? or is the ray of colour much larger or with a different scope or size? Much love Sam.

Jeddah: Hi Sam, We are all wired differently. So some find it easier to feel, some to hear and some to see. They are all components of our sentient knowingness. So you can find your way into one of them through the others. If you can sense and feel easily, become very conscious of what is happening during those times and you will find that there is a visual component if you require it to be there. However, please know that it is not necessary.
Rays of light are the manifest colour of a particular vibration. They emanate from everywhere simultaneously as does the energy itself. Its scope is infinite. The rays are mentioned for those people who like to find their way into an experience via a visual or colour. If this is not your natural inclination, find your way in through the felt sense of that – without needing to see it. Both work. Just different doors. I wish you all the very best.

Warm blessings, Jeddah

Why Does Cruelty and Suffering Exist in a Love-Based Reality?

My belief is that the ground of being and all manifestation is love. But my mind can’t reconcile what appears to be the basic cruelness of nature and the suffering it imposes on it’s creatures with this basic belief. I recently watched a documentary about the very loving primates, the Bonobos. Aside from their unusually gentle and loving ways, they showed a primate who lost it’s mother and discussed how the natural response from the group was to psychologically banish it’s orphans. When other primate children in the group treated the orphan roughly, their mothers would step in and rough up or bite the hand of the orphan till it bled. It was apparent that the orphans great loss would result in living a life of being ostracized and abused. Suffering in humans can lead to awareness. What is the purpose of this apparent injustice and suffering seen throughout nature and in humans in a love based reality? This greatly disturbs me. Thank you

Jeddah: What you are witnessing here is trying to be understood rationally by the mind. Notice there are certain assumptions operating that are all based in a thought reality. It is the very struggle of rationalising that is painful. It is the apparent conflict between these assumptions that causes you such distress. How would it be to sit with such happenings without the mind’s interpretation? Immediately you notice a spacious quality enter. This spaciousness allows you to be in the same space as the primate event without the angst. No longer are we looking through the lens of right and wrong, kindness and cruelty, ease and suffering. Now there is an equanimity present.
I do not know why these creatures act. So in this I cannot offer you certainty. However I can offer you certainty in knowing the nature of existence itself. That it is always seeking expansion and self knowing. That is carries out the exact shape and form of the intent influencing it. Who is to say that human actions are not reflected in the animal world? What have we learnt about our own relationship to harming another from this. If it has taught us anything about being more compassionate, more inclusive, more loving, more accepting -then it has served its purpose perhaps.
You have also learnt that you are full of compassion, care and concern for those who are suffering. So in that sense your response is a great teacher, just as the Bonobos themselves.

How can I tell if my heart is open?

Dear Jeddah,
I have been working and studying spiritual matter for approx 12 years. I am not sure I know when my heart is open, I have tried many meditations to do just that but I don’t usually notice the difference in how I feel. Can you tell me how to tell if it is open.
Love Leslie

Dear Leslie,
Every experience we have is made up of sensations which are a form of feedback as to what intention/thought/belief awareness is currently carrying out as per our instructions. Every intention/thought/belief is shaping awareness which gives rise to moment to moment experience. When our heart is open, it is usually in response to a intention/thought/belief which has goodwill as its essence. This goodwill causes the energy flow through that centre which lead us to experience expansive sensations. These can be subtle or obvious. In your case it may be that they are very subtle. Or it may be that you are looking for ‘something’ to happen that the mind imagines should be happening and so you miss what is actually happening. There may also be unconscious instructions which doubt that it will work and therefore manifest the lack of experience instead of the experience you are consciously attempting.
Try recalling people/memories/thoughts that bring a sense of gratitude/appreciation and notice your experience. If there is a change in your experience at all, then this is the result of what you are presently holding in your being. Experiment with different intentions and notice even very small changes.
You are designed in such a way that something will be happening. Start to notice what that is and that will allow you to find your way into what is possible. And finally…remember to relax. There is nothing to achieve here. Genuine, sincere and innocent fun and enjoyment relax our being more than any specific spiritual practice.
Heartfully, Jeddah

Mantras and Japa?

Aloha Jeddha
What is your take on using a Mantra during meditation and doing japa during the day? It seems to me that since the nature of the mind is to think, one might as well give it something juicy to chew on, rather then the usual worries, fears, etc. What say you?

Hi Craig
Of course, we can do whatever we like as there is no such thing as a right way. However when the mind is constantly ‘employed’ it is constantly activating awareness into some kind of form, even very subtle form. When we allow our consciousness to rest in awareness, the essence of the mind merges back into its pure light nature and does not activate experience within awareness. We are then able to experience the empty nature of awareness directly (which is actually Fullness).
All the best to you,
Jeddah

Setting up a meditation group?

As a result of listening to your interview cd, I am putting together a group of about nine people based on your wonderful work! I’ve purchased and am awaiting your “Seeds of Enlightenment.” Could you give me any advice/ideas on how to format this group?
Thanks, Joy

Dear Joy,
What a wonderful name!
Thank you for your patience and my sincere apologies for not being able to reply sooner. I took a longer break this winter holiday and am only just now getting back to the many enquiries that came through during that period.
In the accompanying booklet to Seeds of Enlightenment I suggested that participants spend at least a week on each topic, meditating at least 2-3 times during that week. This is to allow time for integration which will increase one’s understanding. Depending on how long the group will run for, you can revise the material repeatedly. Each time you revisit a topic, your understanding will have deepened due to the other meditations. Whether you meet in person or not, you can come together once a week or month to discuss your practice and meditate together. The most important aspect to remember is that there’s nothing to achieve. Just use the meditations to enjoy your being in all it’s beauty. Let me know how you go from time to time.
With love, Jeddah

Does working as a healer reinforce the idea that we are a body?

Dear Jeddah,
I have a question about the validity of practicing as an energetic or spiritual healer and whether this is a constructive form of spiritual work. In my work I offer hands-on -healing and I utilize the model of the energy body and energy field as a way of understanding my clients situation. Whilst I have witnessed some wonderful improvements to peoples health and well-being in my work, at the same time I’m increasingly drawn to the teachings of non-dualism and resonate with the understanding that we are not form, our true nature is not the body. I’m questioning whether in offering healing for bodily conditions, am I in fact reinforcing the paradigm that we are the body? I feel that I bring a consciousness to my work which wards against believing the body to be Real, however I am seeking to be in integrity with Truth and would be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

This is an excellent question. Thank you for bringing it to the forum.
It all depends how we approach it – how we relate to what we’re doing as we do it, as you pointed out. Healing recognises that there is more to one’s existence than the body, not least because the healer works with energy to bring about the healing. When we use intent to direct the existential energy bound in form, we are, by our very action, reinforcing that the foundation substance of all form is energy. The healer knows that it is the intent which informs the energy that reorganises substance. So healing as a therapy is immensely supportive of non-dualistic teachings. Notice the conundrum here was created in the mind… for existential energy has no preference…it knows that all existence, energy and the form arising from it, are essentially non-dualistic. It is only how we use our perception of it that creates any duality.
Keep up the good work. Your intention to assist others by seeing Truth yourself is the highest form of healing. Our hands simply reflect this.
Blessings and Light
Jeddah
